Monterey Bay

From one bay to another, 3,000 miles across the country. The "west coast" of Florida is way-way different than the west coast of the United States! I started travelling out to Santa Cruz County in California in mid 2008. West Marine is headquartered in Watsonville, California. My travels were to help out with planning, processes, and integrating a new order entry system being purchased. My boss, the Senior Director of Direct Sales, External Customer (now his title is Sr. Director of Shared Services - same basic job, just more stuff to deal with) had already asked me about moving out to California on a few occasions. Telling me how nice the area is, how it would be great to be able to work closely together on different projects we would have, and generally making it easier to accomplish a lot more. By early 2009 teams were now working on our new order entry (and point of sale for all of our almost 400 stores too) and I was moved away from a lot of that (thank goodness). I was given other tasks that did keep me coming back out to California and by mid 2009 I was practically living in California and returning home to Florida for a week here or a week there. My director did finally make an offer that I couldn't turn down, so I decided to make the move across the country.

You can find some of my thoughts and read my banter about this "Life Out Left" in the blog I've started. I'm not very good at keeping it current - but having some followers may help!

On the blog you will read about this chapter of my life. Blogging is the "in thing," right? It sure is a lot easier than changing my website here around constantly. Go there and read what I'm up to!
